Francis was born in 1590. He is the son of Jean Mercier and Jeanne Le Clerc [needs citation]
Francis was rector of Gadmanstone, Dorset from about 1628. He had been educated at Westminster and then at Trinity College, Cambridge. He was firstly awarded his BA and then an MA in 1626. His ordination to the clergy took place at Bristol, England in 1628 and he was appointed to the parish of Godmanstone in Dorset. [1]
Francis firstly married Bridget Browne on 29 May 1630 in Godmanstone, Dorset.[2]
His second marriage was to Katherine Browne on 10 July 1641 in Christchurch, Hampshire, England.[3] According to the Alumni Cantabrigienses, she was Katherine Savage, daughter of Richard Savage of Sydling, Dorset and the widow of Robert Browne of Godmanston. [4]
Francis died in Dec 1668 and was buried at Godmanstone on 29 Dec. The parish register noted that he was "late the rector of the church at Godmanstone". [5]
His father Jean Mercier lived in England where Francis was born. There he was known as Jan Mercer. The children born in England were christened under the name of Mercer rather than Mercier or Le Mercier. More sources needed, however.
