David was born on September 2, 1739 in Albemarle County, VA. He was the son of Thomas Meriwether and Elizabeth Thornton. He married Mary Harvie. They had a daughter: Martha Watkins Meriwether. He may have had two sons: Lewis B. Meriwether, and Thomas Meriwether. He passed away on September 1, 1806 in Wilkes County, Georgia at age 67 or 1795 in Kentucky. He was buried in Georgia.
Note: General David Meriwether is sometimes confused with his cousin, David Meriwether
(1739 - 1806) son of Thomas Meriwether and Elizabeth Thornton, who moved to Wilkes County, GA in the same time period. They resided in separate areas, but both were identified with Methodist societies in the same time period.- from Nelson Heath Meriwether, Meriwethers and Their Connections, page 327.

Y-chromosome DNA test-takers in his direct paternal line on WikiTree:
Meriwether-444 and Merriwether-7 appear to represent the same person because: Attached Merriwether-6 to father David Meriwether-444 and to mother Mary Harvie-549.
This leaves Merriwether-7 standing alone.
Please MERGE David Meriwether-444 and Merriwether-7.
Meriwether-166 and Meriwether-110 are not ready to be merged because: There is not enough evidence yet that these two are the same: no same wives, no same parents. The only things that are the same the names and approximate birth dates. There are too many Meriwethers with the same names to determine that these are the same without more information.
Meriwether-166 and Meriwether-110 appear to represent the same person because: I am seeking a merge of my ancestor General David Meriwether of Georgia and your David Meriwether... Thanks. (We have family genealogists who assert that our David Meriwether was uncle to Meriwether Lewis of Lewis and Clark fame. I noticed Lucy Meriwether Lewis on the sibling list.) Please note that the title "General" denotes a state militia rank. General Meriwether was also known for having promoted the Methodist Faith in Georgia.
Thus, Mary (Waller) may be an incorrect wife for David [Meriwether-110].
2021-04-22 Update: Merge completed. I had proposed a merge of Meriwether-110 and Meriwether-444. Clear duplicates, except for different wives.
