Biography

OLIVE MERRICK,[1] born at Methuen, 19 Jan 1771 daughter of Jacob Merrick and Judith (Barker) Merrick;[2] Olive died at New Hampton, New Hampshire, 1848;[3] married at Loudon, New Hampshire, 7 Feb 1799,[4] WILLIAM BENNETT, born at Hampton Falls, 20 May 1760 son of Jeremiah Bennett and Rachael (Sanborn) Bennett;[5] William died at New Hampton, before 1820 (deed and census record).

Olive Merrick and William Bennett resided in New Hampton, New Hampshire. William was a farmer.

On 5 June 1801, William Bennet yeoman of New Hampton received from his father Jeremiah Bennet seventy-five acres of the thirteenth lot of the third range for payment of two hundred dollars. This was land Jeremiah purchased from John Harper.[6]

William Bennett died before 1820, and on 7 August 1820 widow Olive Bennett headed a household of six persons at New Hampton: one female 45 and over, one male 16 to 18, one male 19 to 25, one female under 10, and two females 10 to 15.[7]

On 3 January 1820, Woodbury Marden in the right of his wife Judith, of Epsom, in consideration of one hundred dollars, quitclaimed to their honored mother Olive Bennet of New Hampton, their rights to the estate of their late father William Bennet. On 29 August 1829, Olive Bennet, widow, quitclaimed her interest in the real estate of her late husband William Bennet to Daniel L. Bennet. In 1830, Daniel L. Bennet conveyed to Benjamin Magoon three undivided sixth parts of the real estate of his father William Bennet, these being tracts in lot thirteen of the third, one share being in his own right and the two other shares he purchased from Judith Marden and Jeremiah Bennet and also deeds from his mother Olive Bennet. On 23 April 1835, Polly M. Bennet, single woman of New Hampton, in consideration of seventy-five dollars, conveyed her interest in the real estate of her late honored father William. Bennet to Benjamin Magoon. On 23 April 1835, Sally Bennet, single woman of New Hampton, quitclaimed her interest in the estate to Benjamin Magoon.[8]

Olive Merrick and William Bennett were parents of six children.

i JUDITH MERICK BENNETT, b. at New Hampton, 14 Nov 1799;[9] d. after 1850 when living at Epsom, NH; m. at New Hampton, 21 Aug 1819, WOODBURY MARDEN, b. at Epsom, 1794 son of Samuel and Nancy (Stevens) Marden; Woodbury d. at Epsom, 1834.

ii DANIEL LEVITT BENNETT, b. at New Hampton, 28 Jan 1802;[10] d. at Bristol, NH, 26 Mar 1865; m. 6 Mar 1823, RHODA E. CLIFFORD, b. at Alexandria, NH, 23 Apr 1803 daughter of Samuel and Mary Conner (Fuller) Clifford;[11] Rhoda d. at Bristol, 5 Apr 1886.

iii JEREMIAH BENNETT, b. at New Hampton, 12 Jun 1805;[12] d. after 1870 when living at Epsom, NH;[13] m. 13 Nov 1828, BETSEY MARDEN, b. at Epsom, 1805 daughter and Samuel and Nancy (Stevens) Marden;[14] Betsey was living at Epsom in 1870.

iv POLLY MERICK BENNETT, b. at New Hampton, 10 Mar 1806;[15] Polly was living at New Hampton and unmarried in 1835 (deed).

v MATILDA JUNE BENNETT, b. at New Hampton, 10 Feb 1808;[16] Matilda d. at New Hampton, 25 Mar 1844. Matilda did not marry.

vi SALLY BENNETT, b. at New Hampton, 23 Apr 1811;[17] d. at Bristol, NH, 15 Apr 1881; m. 16 Apr 1838, MOSES MERRILL, b. at Hill, NH, 13 Apr 1807 son of John and Elizabeth (Darling) Merrill; Moses d. at Bristol, 4 Mar 1868.
