Biography

Robert Carlton 'Carl' was born in 1918 at Putty. He was the son of Leo Merrick and Lillith Merrick. He passed away in 1996 at Bulga near Singleton. He married twice, first to Minnie TAYLOR in 1942 and after her death he married Zelma MEDHURST in 1952.

  • WEDDING MERRICK—TAYLOR

A marriage was celebrated in All Saints' Church, Singleton, on 'Wednesday, 22nd July, by Rev. W. Holmes, when Carl Merrick, third son of Mr and Mrs T. L. Merrick, of Putty was united in the bonds of matrimony to Miss Minnie Taylor, third daughter of Mrs S. Taylor, of William Street, Singleton. The bride wore a nicely cut white satin frock, with wreath and veil, and carried a bouquet of artistically arranged carnations and camellias. The bridesmaids were Miss Mavis Merrick (sister of the bridegroom), who wore blue taffeta, and Miss Beryl Taylor (sister of the bride), who wore pink sheer; They carried bouquets of pink carnations and rosebuds. The best man was Mr Claude McTaggart and the groomsman was Mr. Henry Taylor. A reception was held at the Band Hall, where the guests were received by Mrs Taylor, mother of the bride.

  • PASSING OF MRS. M. M. MERRICK

The death occurred unexpectedly in Dangar Cottage Hospital last night of Mrs. Minnie Merle Merrick, at the age of 27 years. Deceased was the former Miss Taylor. Mrs. Merrick is survived by her husband, but there was no issue of the union. The funeral will be conducted to-morrow morning.

The marriage was celebrated at St. Mark's Church of England, Pokolbin on September 13th, of Zelma Olive, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. Medhurst, Pokolbin and Robert Carl, second eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Merrick Putty. Rev. Bateman officiated. The bride entered the church on the arm of her father gowned in a lovely frock of taffeta and lace featuring a scalloped yoke. Her veil was held in place by a coronet of orange blossom. She carried a bouquet of artificial roses. The bride was attended by her sister Grace, who was frocked in a lovely gown of blue taffeta with matching shoulder length embroidered veil. Her bouquet was artificial pink roses. Mr. Len Merrick attended the bridegroom At the reception at the Pokolbin School of Arts, the guests were received by Mrs. Medhurst and Mrs. Merrick. Mrs. Medhurst wore a pink and grey figured frock with matching accessories. Mrs. Merrick wore a smart navy frock and accessories. The bride and groom received many lovely and useful presents. , The newly weds will make their home in Singleton.
