She was baptised on 30 Mar 1859 at St. Michael's Church, Limerick, Ireland. According to her Certificate of Baptism she was born on 27 Jan 1859. She was also known as Annie Laura. She married twice, her first husband was Edward Steacie, of Co. Galway, Ireland, who was six years her junior. He deserted his new wife at the end of their honeymoon at St. Malo, France. He left their hotel without paying his bill. Fortunately their marriage was without issue. Her second husband was Robert John Allen, whom she met on the Holyhead to Kingstown (Dun Laoghaire) ferry, most probably in 1900. They were introduced by Robert Henry Elmes, a family friend who was an Inland Revenue colleague of Robert John. She was Robert John's second wife. At the time of her second marriage she gave her name as Annie Laura Steacie formerly Merrick, a widow.
