Bathsheba was born in 1774, or possibly 1778, in Winchester, Frederick County, Virginia,.[1][2] in Winchester, Virginia[3] the daughter of Richard and Phebe Tucker Merrifield.
In the early 1790s she married, John Springer, the tenth of eleven children and the eight of nine sons of Dennis and Ann Prickett Springer. She bore him at least ten children, only three of whom were boys.[4]
