Biography

Rachel Merrill was born in 1715, the daughter of William Merrill and Anne Parke in Hunterdon, New Jersey. She married John Stout, son of James Stout and Catherine Simpson in 1734, Hopewell, Mercer, New Jersey. They had ten children: seven sons and three daughters. She died on 3 May 1795, Wertsville, Hunterdon, New Jersey.

From The History of the Stout Family by Nathan Stout, p. 19

I now introduce John, eldest son of the said James, the son of David. John married Rachel, daughter of William Merrill, in the year 1734, by whom he had ten children, seven sons and three daughters, viz: Abraham, Amos, Aaron who died when two years old, William, Nathan, Moses, Levi, Catherine, Anne and Rachel.

My aunt Cora's DAR application had this date crossed out and the following info was added: "3 May 1795 Wertsville, Hunterdon Co., NJ."
