Charles Merrill served in the United States Civil War.
Charles Henry Merrill was born at Goffstown, New Hampshire on August 14, 1839, son of Stephen Merrill and Lydia Short. [1] He left Goffstown in 1860, moving to Hyde Park, Massachusetts. [2]
Charles married Elizabeth Alice Scott on January 6, 1866 at Charlestown, Massachusetts. [3] Elizabeth was born at Ludlow, Vermont on September 29 1838, daughter of Elijah Scott and Sarah Churchill. [4][5] The family moved to Sterling, Massachusetts in 1873 and remained there until Elizabeth's death. Charles was a farmer. [2]
Charles served in quartermaster department stationed at Morris Island South Carolina from November 1863 to June 1864 in the War of the Rebellion. [2]
Elizabeth died on September 13 1912 at Sterling Massachusetts and is buried in Legg Cemetery, Sterling. [5][2][6]
Charles died at Goffstown on September 21, 1916 and was buried in the Legg Cemetery at Sterling with Elizabeth, Flossie and Henry. [1][2][7]
Children
Charlie Scott born on March 9, 1867; married Martha France of Peterboro, New Hampshire [2] on June 15, 1903. [8]
Harry Stephen born March 22, 1871 [9] ; died young in Hyde Park. [2]
