Mary Ann engaged in farming in Clarke County, Alabama.
Mary Ann was born about 1832. She passed away in 1909 at the age of 76 and is interred at Oak Grove Cemetery, Chilton, Alabama.[1]
Mary Ann's birth year on records dates anywhere from 1830 to 1832. However, both the 1900 census and her Find A Grave memorial list the date Apr 1832. I went with the date to 1832 until more records can be found. This will stop the error/suggestion messages. Huggins-2519. PM, change it back if you'd like.
Early Life
Mary Ann was the daughter of Elisha Williams Merritt and Anna Mahala Garvin. In 1850 she was about 20 years old and still living with her parents in Hall County Georgia. Note: there are mistakes in the spelling of the names in the census. The census also lists her birthplace as South Carolina, the same as her father, but all future census reports list her birthplace as Georgia. Other information from the census:
Mary Ann married John Goodman on September 12, 1852, in Early County, Georgia. She was his second wife, his first wife had died within the last year.[3][4]
In the 1860 census, Mary Andd (age 29) and John (40) were living in Election Precinct 4, Coffee, Alabama. They had six children in the household.[5]
