Trying to sort out where the orphan, Charles Merritt, came from. A court record states he came to Virginia as a 14 y/o orphan on a ship from London in the 1660's. So far, his DNA does not match any Merritt's in England but apparently he may have been from the Bath or Cornwall area. His yDNA over the centuries goes back to Denmark, then to current living matches from the Mecklenburg area of Germany, then to two family lines in Poland that are DNA matches (Broska and Josefski) and back to his terminal DNA from the Steppes region of Ukraine.
