1786: Title: GUARDIAN ACCOUNTS: Phebe, Polly and Allen Murry Merryman Publication: Cumberland Co, VA Guardian Accounts (1769-1809) (LVA #38)

Note: This documents the Guardian Accounts of Phebe, Polly, and Allen Murry Merryman from 1769 through 1786 with John Flippen, Guardian. The accounts begin on page 27 and continue on numerous unnumbered pages. The final accounting for Phebe and Polly details their marriages to Benjamin and Obadiah Johnson

Obadiah's widow Mary (Polly) Johnson, applied for a Revolutionary War widow's pension after Obadiah's death. The application was denied because proof of the date of the marriage was not complete. Polly obtained copies of statements from a witness to the marriage (Elizabeth Flippen), as well as a statement from the Clerk of Court for Cumberland County, who said that the marriage records for the year she was married were destroyed in a fire. Polly died before she received a determination on her appeal, and her son Monroe reinstated the appeal after her death, requesting the back payments on the widow's pension Polly should have received. The request was granted and he received the back payments
