Antonio Santi Giuseppe Meucci was born on Apr 13, 1808 at 5 am in Firenze, Tuscany, Italy.
Baptized on Apr 14, 1808. His godfather was Antonio Tassi (Francesco Tassi's son)
Two people claimed to be his children. One is Carlo Meucci, said to have been born on February 3, 1872 in New York. This is unlikely as Esther would have been in her 60s. The other is Esther Mathilda Nisini Grosch, who was born at Antonio's home. She claimed that her mother told her she was Antonio's illegitimate daughter.
Meucci was an Italian inventor and an associate of Giuseppe Garibaldi, a major political figure in the history of Italy. He is best known for developing a voice-communication apparatus that several sources credit as the first telephone.
