Biography

David Millar was born in Eassie or Glamis, Angus, around 1814.

The parents of David Millar were Robert Millar and Mary Nathaniel, and I think they hailed from Errol and Longforgan, in Perthshire.

David Millar married Margaret Forbes in Bendochy, Perthshire, on 25 October 1835.

David Millar worked as an Agricultural Labourer, then, after moving to Dundee, as an Auctioneer's Clerk (in how son's business - his son, William Millar, ran an auctioneer business in Dundee) and, later, as a General Labourer.

In the 1841 Census, David Millar and his family are living in (or by) Meigle in Perthshire. the name of the location appears to be 'Baleigle' (near Camno Muir).

In the 1851 Census, David Millar and his family are living in Washington in the parish of Meigle (Perthshire), Washington is now called Ardler.

In the 1861 Census, David Millar and his family are living at Camno Muir(?) in (or by) Meigle in Perthshire.

In the 1871 Census, David Millar and his family are living in Lyon Place (Lyon Street, I think), Dundee. So at some point between 1861 and 1871, they moved from Ardler/Meigle (Perthshire) to Dundee.

When David Millar died on 4th December 1884, he was living with his daughter, Catherine, his son-in-law, William Valentine, and his grandson, David M. Valentine (aged 3 months in 1881). David died at 56 Constable Street, Dundee.

In the 1881 Census, David Millar (sometimes spelt Miller) is working as a General Labourer, and is aged 67. His son-in-law, William Valentine, is a Calander Worker in the jute industry. Their address is 47 Albert Street, Dundee. His daughter, Catherine Millar, was born in Meigle, Perthshire, around 1853.

N.B. Millar is sometimes spelt Miller in the records for this branch of the Millar family.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with David by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with David:
