Biography

Esther was a Friend (Quaker)

Esther was born on 15 October 1776 at Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire. Her birth was recorded by Nailsworth Quaker Monthly Meeting, Gloucestershire, with her parents named as John (a farmer) and Anna.^[1][2]

On 21 February 1799 Esther married Samueo Atkins at Tewkesbury Quaker Meeting House. The marriage record of Gloucester Quaker Monthly Meeting describes her as daughter of John Millard (of Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, maltster) and Anna.^[3] They had the following children (transcripts on FindMyPast and Familysearch give their birthplace as Witney - that is incorrect: Witney was the name of the Quaker Monthly Meeting recording their births):

• Robert, born on 25 March 1800^[4][5]
• Sarah, born on 28 December 1801,^[6][7] who is probably the Lucy Sarah Atkins who married Daniel Wilson in 1829^[8] and whom census records say was born in Chipping Norton, Oxfordshire in about 1802 (she was, for instance, said to be 59 at the time of the 1861 census^[9])
• Martha, born on 6 March 1804^[10][11]
• Anna, born on 5 January 1806^[12][13]
• John, born on 8 June 1808^[14][15]
• Caroline, born on 9 May 1810^[16][17]
• Ellen, born on 23 March 1812^[18][19]

Esther died on 6 December 1833 and was buried at Chipping Norton Quaker burial ground, Oxfordshire on 12 December.^[20][21]
