Biography

Robert Millard, the son of Thomas and Ruth (Dutton) Millard emigrated to Liverpool, Nova Scotia from New England in 1762, and was one of the original proprietors of the town[1]

On November 3, 1768, he married Anne or Amy Crowell, the daughter of Johnathan and Ann Crowell who also settled in Liverpool[2] [3]. Their children included:

  1. Thomas Matthew Millard, October 31, 1769[3], who married Dorcas Tucker[4] and kept a store[5]
  2. Ruth "Ruthy", born March 21, 1771[3], who married Nathaniel Smith[6] [5]
  3. Robert, born June 17, 1773[3], a sailor, who married Hannah Crowell, daughter of Archelaus (the son of Judah and Tabitha Nickerson) and Mary Crowell of Barrington[7], and who died in 1803[5]
  4. Ann or Amy born June 28, 1775[3], who married Robert Slocum[8] [5]
  5. Hannah, born June 30, 1777[3], who married Hallet Cole
  6. Zenas, born May 4, 1779[3], who was drowned on Monday, April 16, 1810[5]
  7. Abigail, born April 15, 1782[3], who married Francis Kempton, the son of Richard and Fear (Curtis) Kempton[9] [5]
  8. Oliver, born October 3, 1784[3], who married Elizabeth Snow the daughter of Stephen and Janet (More) Snow[10], and then married Martha Van Horne[11] [5]
  9. Eunice, born May 12, 1896[3]

Robert Millard is mentioned in several places in Simeon Perkins diary, starting on page 4 of Volume I[5] Robert was educated. He served as town clerk for Liverpool and clerk of the court of common pleas, provided counsel in court occasionally and, in the absence of a physician, as medical adviser to townsfolk. He also participated in the business of the town, invested in some of the shipments and rented land on Bear's Island in partnership with Perkins[5]

Robert died on November 6, 1808, at the age of 68[3]
