Biography

William Plested Millard was born in about 1854 in Massachusetts, USA to Absalom Millard and Elizabeth Henrietta (Plested) Millard.

• William's mother Elizabeth Henrietta Plested was born in Middlesex, England. She married Thomas Davison in 1847, and he died in 1849. Elizabeth Henrietta Davison then married Absalom Millard in 1850. They emigrated to the United States sometime before William was born.

William went to England with his mother before 1861. She was still listed as married on the 1861 census, but William's father was not with them. It's possible that William's parents separated.

1861 William Millard (age 7) lived at High Street in North Crawley, Buckinghamshire with his mother Elizabeth H (32, Publican) and grandmother Ann Plested (61, Publican).^[1]

William's mother Elizabeth Henrietta Millard married James Ruffhead in 1867.

In 1871 William Millard (age 17) lived in North Crawley with his stepfather James Ruffhead (31), mother Elizabeth Ruffhead (42), and relative Emily Tongue (11).^[2]

William Plested Millard married Sarah Ann Millard in 1879. The marriage was registered in Stepney, London in the third quarter of the year.^[3]

William and Sarah had four children:

3. Florence Mary (Millard) Chesebro (1887-1952)
4. William Plested Teeden Millard (1891-1891)

In 1891 William P Millard (age 36, Carpenter Joiner) lived at Dudley Terrace in Mile End Old Town, London with his wife Sarah Ann (35) and two daughters: Elizabeth L (6, Scholar) and Florence M (3).^[4] Their son Thomas J (9, Scholar) was staying at Brook End in North Crawley with William's stepfather James Ruffhead (55, Farmer) and mother Elizabeth H Ruffhead (62).

In 1901 William Millard (age 48, Carpenter) lived at Hill Street in Camberwell, London with his wife Sarah (48), son Thomas (19, Carpenter), and daughter Florence (13).^[5]

William returned to the United States with his family in about 1906.

William P Millard, Sarah, and two daughters, were enumerated in the 1910 census of Oneida, Madison, New York. William and Sarah had been married for 27 years, with four children born, three still living.^[6]

William's wife passed away in 1919.

William Millard was enumerated in the 1920 census of Oneida, Madison, New York, United States. He was 50 and widowed. His daughter and son-in-law lived with him.^[7]

In 1930 William Millard (age 76) lived at 411 Stone Street in Oneida.^[8]
