Biography

Elizabeth (Miller) Boulware's son, Stark Boulware purchased land in Rowan Co., North Carolina in 1794 from a Henry Miller. It appears this Henry Miller was of German descent and married a Susannah Miller also of German descent (so not connected to my Millers who were of Scottish descent). The Rowan Co., NC Henry Miller (based on FamilySearch.org link below) is:

Heinrich "Henry" Miller (1755 PA - c. 1810 Rowan Co., NC) who married Susannah Miller on 9/16/1778 in Bladen, Rowan Co., NC.

Bowler is also spelled Boulware

A 1797 court document survived the court house burnings in King and Queen County, Virginia that notes my 6th great grandfather, John Miller who “ made a will 21 February, 1742 leaving a life estate in 100 acres of land to his daughter Mary Berry") as well as his son, Christopher Miller, Sr., and one of John Miller (D-1742) grandson's (Christopher Miller (1726- circa 1782); son of John Miller, Jr.). John Miller (who died in 1742) is noted “of King and Queen Co.” in the 1797 court document. This document involves a suit over the ownership of some land past down the three Miller generations originally owned by John Miller (who died in 1742). Another King & Queen Co. court document (1746) that survived notes Christopher Miller, Sr. also "of King and Queen Co." is to be paid for traveling 17 miles each way to the K&Q Co. courthouse. Based on these documents, it appears my 5th great grandfather (Christopher Miller, Sr.); my 6th great grandfather (John Miller who died in 1742); and maybe my 4th great grandfather (also a John Miller) lived in K&Q Co. at least some portions of their lives. It appears (based on 17 mile travel from K&Q Co. courthouse), at least Christopher Miller, Sr. lived in the general area of the intersection of modern highways 33 and 14 just north of what is now the town of Cologne, VA about 6 miles north of the York River; 1 mile west of the upper portion of the Poropotank River; and about 7miles west of the Plankatank River. Christopher Miller, Sr. (my 5th great grandfather) owned land (purchased in 1754) near the Colonial official tobacco warehouse called Kemp's Warehouse on the Plankatank River a few miles in from the Chesapeake Bay. My early Virginia Miller's were Scottish merchants involved with the tobacco trade back to England and Glasgow, Scotland.

Many of my Miller’s owned property in several counties, so I am not surprised that some could be say noted in court documents “of King & Queen Co.” and the same person also noted say “of Middlesex Co.” in other documents.

My Miller ancestors living just north of what is now the town of Cologne, VA (in southeastern corner of King & Queen Co.) explains how they could have lived in King & Queen Co.; yet many of their children's baptisms were at Christ Church Parish in Middlesex Co. (about ten miles from Cologne, VA). Another one of my likely Miller relatives (Patrick Miller, Sr. b-1620 Scotland) lived in Middlesex Co., VA by the time of his 1st land patent there in 1653. Patrick Miller, Sr. was in the 1st group of Vestrymen at Christ Church Parish in now Middlesex Co. His land purchases were a few miles east of Christ Church on the south side of the Rappahannock River. Patrick Miller, Sr. maybe my 7th great grandfather or another close relative since some of the descendants of John Miller (D-1742), my 6th great grandfather lived in the area where Patrick Miller, Sr. had purchased land in now Middlesex Co., VA.

So based on the above, as well as other information I have discovered after thousands of hours of research, I am changing some of the birth/death locations of some of my relatives from Middlesex Co., VA (Christ Church Parish) to King and Queen Co., VA, and Essex Co., VA.

In her father's (John Miller) 1742 will he notes, "I leave to my daughter, Ann Barbee and John, her husband, one shilling, one shilling and the same sum to wit, one shilling to my daughter, Eliza Bowler and her husband." So Elizabeth (Miller) Bowler was living at least to early 1742.

Research Notes

Per John Miller's (born Abt. 1670 in Elizabeth City Co., Virginia) will probated in Middlesex Co. on 3/1/1742. I am not sure if I am adding to some confusion since there appears to be two other Elizabeth Millers (one with additional siblings not mentioned in John Miller's will; however not all siblings are mentioned in wills for various reasons). Maybe with DNA testing in the future, as well as possible other documents located, this can be sorted out.

Ancestry Family Trees

I am adding a duplicate Elizabeth Miller here since I do not agree with certain of the ancestors listed for the other Elizabeth Miller (daughter of John and Michall Miller). e.g. I do not think Simon Miller is John Miller's father (he maybe however I have not done detailed research on the "Simon" Miller's at this point). If you have concerns about Elizabeth Miller's parentage, then her parents should be disconnected until they can be confirmed via sourcing, versus creating a duplicate profile. Please do not create duplicate profiles deliberately.

An Elizabeth Miller marries a Robert Wilkins at Christ Church (Middlesex Co.) on 11/19/1730; her birth date is noted as the same as this Elizabeth Miller and her parents are noted as John Miller (1665-1742) & Mical Christopher (1672-1710). So it appears she is the same person as this Elizabeth. However the birth years of her children to an other husband (John Abrell) do not make sense (27 years between 1st and 2nd child born; so I am not going to add this family to Elizabeth's profile. https://www.familysearch.org/tree/person/details/LKFJ-7PT

NOTE: THE ABOVE ELIZABETH MILLER WAS HIGHLY LIKELY ELIZABETH (HILL) MILLER, FORMER WIFE OF PATRICK MILLER. PATRICK MILLER DIED ABOUT 1728 AND HIS WIFE ELIZABETH HILL RE-MARRIED IN 1730 TO ROBERT WILKINS - I ADDED ROBERT WILKINS AS THE 2ND HUSBAND OF ELIZABETH HILL ON ELIZABETH HILL'S WIKITREE PROFILE.

I REMOVED ROBERT WILKINS AS A HUSBAND OF THE ELIZABETH MILLER OF THIS PROFILE GIVEN IT IS LOGICAL BASED ON DOCUMENTS THAT ELIZABETH MILLER WAS THE WIDOW OF PATRICK MILLER, JR.

Maybe a relative of Elizabeth Bowler's - Source: Middlesex County, Virginia Wills, Inventories & Accounts, 1673-1812, published in 1989 (MAY indicate that the Bowler family was involved with moving supplies - e.g. 7 barrels of corn):

2/6/1755: "Capt. Robert Frank against Richard Corbin, Esq. over a debt. JOHN BOWLER delivered 7 barrels of corn."

Given the only two Bowler's mentioned in all the Middlesex Co., VA Wills Inventories & Accounts from 1673 to 1812 were the John Bowler above and Elizabeth (Miller) Bowler; I will assume Elizabeth Miller's husband was the John Bowler above. John Bowler on this profile would likely have been in his mid to late 50's in 1755 when he delivered the 7 barrels of corn.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Eliza by comparing test results with other carriers of her mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known mtDNA test-takers in her direct maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Eliza:

Miller-1202 and Unknown-254498 appear to represent the same person because: Same person; Bowler is a spelling variation of Boulware. My 6th great grandfather (John Miller)'s 1742 will recorded in Middlesex Co., VA notes his daughter Elizabeth married a Bowler. The town of Millers Tavern, Virginia is named after a tavern they had in that location in Essex Co., VA. Thanks Jim Miller
