Notes
Note N717Harry Miller worked for the Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company since 1933. He was 14 years old when he was hired as a switchboard operator. He served a short stint in the Navy but entered the war too late to see any action. He retired as District Plant Manager 40 years later. He and his family lived all over the state of Florida, but he finally settled in Miami in 1962. He loved to travel by car and he and his family traveled every highway in the state at one time or another. In spite of chronic sea sickness, he loved the sea and boats. He was finally able to purchase a Grand Banks Trawler after retirement. He and his wife Joy made a trip from Maine to Florida down the inter-coastal waterway. He also loved airplanes and learned to fly but never obtained his pilots license. His youngest daughter, Tracey, fulfilled this dream for him. He spent many happy hours in public service with the Kiwanis Club, and the Telephone Pioneers of America. He was a past President of the Pioneers and was asked but declined to serve as a lifetime President. He was well liked and respected by his peers.
