A Phil Miller (on WikiTree) noted to me in a 5/24/2018 email (just rediscovered this email when searching my email files on Poropotank Creek) that the Mary Miller that married William Strachey (1626-1687) died on 2/9/1703 in "Poropotank, King and Queen" County, VA. It appears Phil Miller assumed that Mary Miller was born the same year as her husband; but she likely was must younger than her husband. I have known there is a Millers Landing Road on modern maps on the east side of Poropotank Creek (Gloucester Co., VA side of creek) about 2 miles from the Poropotank Creek Historical Marker. I am just discovering ties of my Miller's to this immediate area of Virginia. Mary (Miller) Strachey's sister "Isabella" Miller married John Lewis, Jr. Today I came across a Poropotank Creek Historical Marker on-line that states in part: "Land was patented on this creek as early as 1640. In 1653, John Lewis settled here. John Lewis, Jr. was living here in 1676".
ALSO: "4 June 1656 Gloucester County Patent: Author Link: Lee, Richard, Col. grantee. Title Link: Land grant 4 June 1656. Summary Location: Gloucester County. Description: 5 acres towards the head of Poropotank Creek whereon the store of the said Col. Lee standeth." The previous quotation refers to Richard Lee-WikiTree ID: Lee-318 (1617-1664). Patrick Miller's (b-1620 in Scotland; 1st land patent in 1653 in what is now Middlesex Co., VA) sister, Hannah Miller married a Lee based on a 1675 Middlesex Co., VA court document. Her husband could have been a brother of Richard Lee-318. My early Virginia Miller's were merchants that owned taverns; ordinaries; stores; and mills. Col. Richard Lee owned a store toward the head of Poropotank Creek in King & Queen Co., VA. My 4th, 5th, and 6th great (Miller) grandfathers lived at least for a period of time in King & Queen Co., VA.
ALSO: A James Miller's headwright was used in a 1651 land patent by a Joseph Hayes in the area of Poropotank Creek.
Mary was born after 1641. [1]
It is possible that Mary also went by Martha since her husband notes a Martha Strachey as his wife in his will in 1686 (also could be that he remarried to a Martha after Mary's death; however only children with Mary are noted in his will)
