David Miller was born on 5 February 1820 at Eaglesham, Renfrewshire, Scotland. He married Marion Young on 3 January 1846 at Lesmahagow, Lanarkshire, Scotland. On 15 April 1848 he immigrated on board the "Philip Laing" leaving Greenock, Renfrewshire, arriving in Port Chalmers, Otago, New Zealand. In November 1850, David was a Labourer. He appeared on the Census of 27 October 1854 at Sawyers Bay, Otago, New Zealand. In March 1857 and February 1858 he was on the Juror's List for the Province of Otago while residing at Otago, New Zealand. Between March 1857 and February 1861 David Miller was a sawyer while living at Sawyers Bay. On 30 June 1858 he was on the Electoral Roll as a Freeholder and Householder: Sawyers Bay while residing at Western District, Otago, New Zealand. He appeared on the Census of 3 November 1858 at District No. 1 -- Church Hill, Dunedin, Otago. In February 1859, David Miller was an Agriculturist. In February 1859, February 1860 and February 1861 David Miller was on the Jurors List for the Province of Otago while residing at Otago, New Zealand. As of between January 1863 and 1865, he lived at Scotia Street, Port Chalmers. In 1865 he was a Settler. He was in the Militia in 1865 at Otago. He died on 24 January 1894 at Port Chalmers at age 73. He was buried circa 26 January at Port Chalmers New Cemetery.
