Jesse Miller is a great-great grandfather of President Gerald Rudolph Ford Jr.[1]
Jesse Miller Jr came to Tioga County, New York in the winter of 1786/87 with his father Jesse and brother Amos. He was age 16 and Amos 14. They came from Bedford, Westchester county, on horseback with all of their possessions. They stopped first at Nichols but then crossed over to Tioga and built a cabin between the hamlets now known as Tioga Centre and Smithboro. The settlement where the cabin was built became known as New Bedford. Miller's house was the stopping place for travelling ministers and also the place of religious worship with the Baptist Church of New Bedford organized there. [2]
