Biography

William Miller is believed to have been born in Chester County, South Carolina about 1791, the son of Robert Miller & Jannett White.

William married Elizabeth Wilson about 1818.

William Miller married Elizabeth Wilson about 1810. This family lived in York and Chester District, South Carolina until the 1850s when they came by covered wagon to Alabama. The family story is that they stopped a while near "Jones Valley" near the present town of Birmingham. By 1860 this family is in Fayette County, Alabama later Sanford, Lamar County. It is said they were on their way to Mississippi , but were so tired from traveling that they settled in Alabama . In 1850 the Miller family is living in Millport, AL William Miller age 69 , the value of his real estate $745.00 and personal estate was $500.00 and he is a farmer.

The 1850 U.S. Census lists William at the age of 59 with his wife Elizabeth and nine children named Miller living in Chester County, South Carolina. Listed with them are four young children under the age of 8 with the last name of McDaniel. Their relationship to William is unclear.[1]

In the 1860 Census William and Elizabeth are shown with nine children living in the Western Division of Fayette County, Alabama. One of the children is listed as 10 year old Robert McDonald, assumed to be the same person as Robert McDaniel listed in the 1850 Census.[2]

William was born about 1791 in Chester County, South Carolina. Son of Robert Miller and Jannet White. He married Elizabeth Wilson before 1815. William is listed in Chester County, South Carolina in 1840, between 40 and 50 years old with wife and 11 children. In 1850 he is still in Chester County, South Carolina, listed as 59 years old a farmer and value of Real Estate owned was $1326, wife and children listed. In 1860 he is listed in the Western Division of Fayette County, Alabama, which became Sanford County, Jones County, back to Sanford County then to Lamar County, Alabama. He was listed as being 69 years old, a farmer, value of Real Estate was $745 and Value of his Personal Estate was $500, he is listed with wife and children. The children that were listed on the 1850 and 1860 Census Records included some of the Grandchildren. On 16 August 1869 Elizabeth filed filed claim to William's Estate, she stated that her late husband William Miller passed 17 June 1867, in Fayette County, now Sanford County, Alabama. That she and their children were the heirs of his Estate, which consisted of a small personal Estate and Real Estate amounting to four Hundred acres. He is believed to be buried at the Old Corinth Cemetery in Lamar County, Alabama.[3]
