Joanis was born before 1828. His and his wife Elisabeth Mirten's names come from the wedding record of their son Mathias Miller who married Margaret Mettler on August 21, 1854 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fort Wayne, IN.
The church record (written in Latin) from St. Mary's Parish shows that Mathias Miller, whose parents were Joannis Muller and Elisabeth Mirten, and Margaret Mettler, whose parents were Joannis Jacobi Mettler and Margaret Stermer (Stuermer), were married on August 21, 1854. The names of the witnesses are difficult to make out: Hernicus Tren Trennis ?? and Joannes Srpordus Ohnhaus ??? This is an important record because it links Margaret Mettler to the Mettler brothers and parents who also settled in Allen County and whose German records can be found on Familysearch.org.[1]
