Biography

Margaret was the wife of Moses Stephens whom she married around the year 1780. Their son Joshua's death record in 1855 states that his parents were Moses and Margaret Stephens. Margaret died sometime between 1800 and Moses's second marriage in 1809.

Various genealogies give her surname as Miller or Williams but a source is lacking. Her birthplace is commonly said to by Kentucky (in 1762!) or Buncombe Co., N.C., (which did not yet exist). We don't know with certainty but it is likely she was born in North or South Carolina given what we know of her husband's whereabouts.
