Biography

MARY M. MILLER was born July 20, 1866 in FORT WAYNE, INDIANA, and baptized on JULY 22, 1866. Her godparents were JOHN RLESIUS AND BARB BAKER.

How, why and when she went from Indiana to Pennsylvania is unknown.

Her first marriage was to _____ SCAFFORD. No record of this has been found. If it took place in Fort Wayne, one of the churches may have a record. Her father and mother attended St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Her mother Margaret died in 1880. She must have owned some land, because in October of 1880, there was a real estate transfer to her children. This was posted in the Fort Wayne Sentinel, October 27, 1880:
Real Estate Transfers.
The following transfers were taken from the recorder's books to-day:
Fort Wayne -- Caristian Tresself, et al, commissioners, to Jacob Miller, w 1/2 of lot 37 in Hamilton's second addition; same to Seraphine Miller, e 1/2 of same; same to Matthias Miller, lot 57 in Rock and Nell's addition, and lot 72 in Hanna & Fisher's addition; same to Mary and Henry Miller, Lot 18 in Lasselville addition.
[more transfers listed of others contiued]

In about 1893, she married JOSEPH T. MIGNOT from Clearfield, PA, the, son of JOHN B. MIGNOT (born in France) and Theresa Lehr (born in Baden). Joseph was born in 1859 or 1860 and died on May 03, 1932 in HAWTHORN, CALIFORNIA. Joseph must have been married before because in the 1930 Census, it shows that he was 24 years old at the time of his first marriage. The 1930 Census also shows that Mary was 26 years old (1892) at the time of her first marriage.

Since she and Joseph don't show up in the Census records from the time that they were married until 1930, the records and family relations are uncertain. Joseph definitely had a son, George, who was born in 1891 (or 1892). Joseph's name is listed as father in George's death Certificate. George's mother's name was listed as 'Unknown.' It is not clear if Mary Miller was his mother. With no wedding or birth records it is hard to be certain. Estimating dates from what records do exist, it seems that maybe George's mother was his father's first wife, whose name is not known. George appears to have been born in the same year of Mary's first marriage to Mr. Scafford, or the year before (George has records that say he was born in 1891 and in 1892). Also in all of George's records, he lists his mother as having been born in Pennsylvania, not Indiana. In the census records that show Mary and Joseph together, Mary is shown to have been born in Indiana.

Also, in the 1900 Census, Mary and Joseph do not appear (on Ancestry.com), but their son George shows up twice: 1) in his grandparents household, and 2) in the household of his aunt. And in 1910 Neither George, Mary or Joseph show up. This makes one wonder if Mary and Joseph went off to elsewhere, leaving George to be raised by family members.

George Cyril MIGNOT was born on March 12, 1892 in Tyrone, PA and died on December 23, 1953 in PHILIPSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA. George was married and raised his family in central Pennsylvania.

With no census records for Mary and Joseph, it is unknown if they had any children prior to 1930.

In 1918, Her husband Joseph is listed in the Clearfield PA city director as a watch repairman who lived and worked at 420 South 2nd (Street?).[1]

The 1930 Federal Census shows Joseph and Mary living in Hathorne City, in the Inglewood Township of Los Angeles County. They own their home at 318 West Raymond Ave. Mary was listed as 63 years old, and Joseph at 69. He was a jeweler who worked in a jewelry store.[2]

Her husband Joseph died on May 3, 1932 in Los Angeles California.[3] He is buried in Calvary Cemetery.[4]

Mary died on November 19, 1935 in LOS ANGLES, CALIFORNIA.
