GREENVILLE ADVOCATE - 28JUL1958 - THOMAS C. MILLER, RETIRED FARMER, DIES AT VANDALIA HOSPITAL - FUNERAL SERVICES HELD AT METHODIST CHURCH HERE SUNDAY

Thomas C. Miller, 71, a retired farmer who had moved to Greenville a week ago, from a farm north of this city, died at Fayette Co. hospital in Vandalia, at 7:06 a.m. Friday, where he had been a patient since the Monday previous. Mr. Miller had been in failing health for 3 years, suffering from a heart condition.

Funeral services were conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at the First Methodist church in this city, the Rev. Carl D. Mitchell, the pastor & the Rev. George C. Streubing of Reno, officicating. Interment was at Mt. Auburn Memorial Park. The Donnell Funeral Home was in charge. Pallbearers were Leo Griffith, Tom White, Clarence Evans, Guy Belt, Jack Etzkorn & Ralph Ragland. Music was furnished by Mrs. Raymond Rush & Frank Joy with Miss Ruth Sussenback, organist. Members of the Alpha Sunday school class had charge of the flowers.

Among those from a distance to attend the funeral were Mr. & Mrs. Chas. Miller & son Mark, Mr. & Mrs. Robt. Kuetche & family, Mr. & Mrs. C. E. Miller & daughter Mrs. Jeane Garrison & Gina of Bunker Hill; Mr. & Mrs. John Norton, Mr. & Mrs. E. H. Penton, Mr. & Mrs. Clarence Feltz, Mr. & Mrs. John Gruber & son all of St. Louis; Mr. & Mrs. Gustave Budde & daughters of Dixon; Mr. & Mrs. Roy Crouch of Pocahontas; Mrs. Geraldine Cress & son Jack of Hillsboro; the Rev. & Mrs. G. C. Streubing of Sorento; Mr. & Mrs. Woodrow Hopkins of Madison; & Mrs. Emil W. Myer of Godeffroy, NY. Mrs. Myer, Mrs. Budde & Mrs. Gruber are daughters of the late Mr. Miller.

Born in Clinton Co., 14Feb1887, Mr. Miller, the son of Andrew Jackson & Ellen (Bass) Miller, was one of a famiy of 13 children. He was aged 71 yaers, 5 months & 12 days. When 4 years of age he came to Bond Co. with his parents & had since resided here. On 15 Oct.,1908 he was married to Mabel Leona Blizzard & tentative plans to observe their golden anniversary this fall, had been made. Mr. & Mrs. Miller had resided on a farm north of Greenville for 22 years, & only a few days ago had moved to Greenville having purchased a home at 416 S. Elm St.

Surviving are his wife, 1 son, Elvin of north of Greenville; & 3 daughters, Geraldine, wife of Emil Myer of Godeffroy, NY; Katheryn, wife of John Gruber of St. Louis & Inez, wife of Gustav H. Budde of Dixon. A foster son, Woodrow Hopkins, lives at Granite City & another foster son, Kenneth Porter, died while in the service in World War II. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren; 1 sister, Mrs. Leslie Royer of south of Greenville & a brother, the Rev. Charles Miller of Bunker Hill. Nine brothers & sisters died in childhood & a brother Edward died later in life.
