In the 1891 census James (age 12) was the son of John Milne at 169 1/2 Gallowgate, Aberdeen St Nicholas, Aberdeenshire. He was a Scholar.[3]
In the 1901 census James (age 21) was the son of John Milne at 84 Skene St, Aberdeen Gilcomston, Aberdeenshire. He was an Apprentice Mason.[4]
