Biography

Emma is the daughter of John Milton (1808-1892) and Cylinda Milton (1816-1867).

From Find a Grave: "Frankfort, Kansas, Index Thursday, January 2, 1936 Emma Victory Dotson nee Milton was born on July 12, 1855 at Indianola, Iowa and departed this life on December 23, 1935 at Frankfort, Kansas. As a small child she came with her parents to Kansas, locating in Atchison. After about a year they moved to Springside, Kansas, where she grew towomanhood. It was there she first met and later married Floyd Dotson, on March 9, 1873.

The young couple located on the farm near Spingside, Kansas it took its name, owing to a large fresh water spring on the ranch. it was from this farm also that Mr. and Mrs. Dotson gave land for the building of the Methodist Church and a public school. It was in this church that Mrs. Dotson was a member and took great delight in working. She was active in every part of the church where she could help. For years she was the director of the choir always herself being the demand as a singer, and that not only in her own church but in all the neighboring churches as well.

In March, 1907 Mr. and Mrs. Dotson moved to Frankfort, Kansas, where they resided the rest of their lives. It was in March of the same year that Mrs. Dotson transferred her church membership to the First Methodist Episcopal church. Uncomplaining she met the difficulties of life and sweetly sang her way through them. Her husband passed away on January 1, 1934.

Seven daughters came to the Dotson home three of them went before in infancy and one Mrs. Clara Lucas, on August 15, 1929. Surviving daughters are, Mrs. Lillian Lane and Mrs. Emma Mills, Frankfort, Kansas, Mrs. Birdie Saar, Kansas City, Kansas; six grandchildren and six great-grandchild- ren.

Burial was in the Frankfort Cemetery, Frankfort, Kansas.
