Louisa was born in 1880. She was the daughter of John Minchin and Louisa Watkins.
Louisa was running an orphanage when her late sister Gertrude's husband Bert approached her to see if she would come and keep house for him and his six children. Apparently she refused, saying she would only do so on the proviso that Bert married her.
Bert duly arrived home with his new bride to the shock of the family who knew nothing about it. Louisa was apparently a very strict woman and the family didn't get on with her. One by one her stepchildren moved out of home; Denis to the South Island, Carrie and Gertrude got married and Frank went to boarding school in New Plymouth.
Louisa and Bert had a baby who was unfortunately Stillborn in 1922, and then their daughter, Constance "Connie" Enid was born in 1924.
When Bert died in 1931 Louisa was only 51. She and their daughter Connie moved off the farm into New Plymouth and the home farm was divided between two of Bert's sons, Harry and George.
Louisa moved to Auckland (electoral roles have her living in 1949 in the Onehunga district, Auckland and in 1954 in the Waitemata district of Auckland).
She passed away in 1956 at the age of 76.
