Biography

****** Ora Faye Harmon's memories as told to her daughter, Tam Lewis (Lewis-10321):

Matilda Miniard Maggard loved her sister, Elizabeth, and visited her when ever she was able to get a ride to her house. The four "girls", Matilda, her daughter Eliza, Eliza's two daughters, Nora Rose, and Ora Faye would travel on the seeming long trip to visit Elizabeth. Ora Faye remembers Elizabeth being a very good cook, and some of her favorite foods Elizabeth made for her family company were chicken and dumplings, biscuits and shucky beans. Ora Faye explained that her grandmother, Matilda, made all those foods as well, but Elizabeth was a superior cook in comparison and Ora Faye savors the memories of Elizabeth's foods. As a young child, after eating Elizabeth's shucky beans, Ora Faye wasn't interested in eating Matilda's. She said that she remembers that Elizabeth's beans actually had striking favor and later she realized the flavor was probably from the addition of pork salt.

Ora Faye recalled that Elizabeth's home had two bedrooms. On occassion Ora Faye was allowed to stay over nights for the weekend as long as her grandmother could prearrange for someone to drive Ora Faye home. Ora Faye remembers the drive being long, maybe three or so hours. One bedroom had two big beds in it and that is where Ora Faye slept sharing a room with Elizabeth. The other bedroom had one bed. Ora Faye remembers one adult son, maybe Stewart, living with Elizabeth and that is where Elizabeth's son slept. Stewart was 'different' and Ora Faye didn't really engage socially with him.

Ora Faye remembers her grandmother, Matilda, frequently talked about her sister Elizabeth. From her childhood memories she isn't sure if they had an especially close relationship due to Matilda's siblings living farther away, predeceasing her, or if it was genuinely Elizabeth that she adored most of all her siblings.

Ora Faye adored Elizabeth as much as her grandmothr did and she described Elizabeth as being so very kind and thoughtful, and tending to Ora Faye's every 'need and want' during her visits. Ora Faye does not remember anything about Elizabeth's husband. ******
