Herbert Mitchell was born in St Leonards, Sussex, England.

Herbert Arthur Mitchell was born in the first quarter of 1879 in St Leonards-on-Sea, Sussex, England to James Mitchell and Deborah Bishop.^[1] He was baptised on 11 May 1879 at Christ Church in St Leonards.^[2]

When he was young, he lived with his parents in Hastings, Sussex and St Leonards.^{[3] [4]}

Research Notes

It appears that he may have married Kate Mepham in the last quarter of 1900 in Hastings, Sussex. However, on the 1901 England Census there is conflicting information regarding her place of birth. More research is required to confirm that this is the correct marrage and to determine what subsequently happened to them.
