Since Susannah Mitchell is not universally accepted as the proven wife of Alexander Pool, this bio starts with current ( 2015) evidence of proof, followed by bio info.
Based on the evidence shown below, we believe that Susanna Mitchell has been shown to be Alexander Pool's wife. This evidence supported , by a number of documents is less certain than a single explicit document would be - however, no such document seems to exist.
the Profile Managers would sincerely appreciate input. If we missed something or if there is a counter argument , we want to know. There are likely additional documentation that we have not located, additions and corrections will be sincerely appreciated.
here, by Wm T Pool, are the key supporting evidence (points 1-8 ) that this connection is valid--- we want this to be correct -- PLEASE LET US KNOW IF YOU SEE A HOLE IN THIS OR HAVE ADDTIONAL INFORMATION
CURENT BASIS OF SUSANNA MITCHELL AS THE SUSANNA WHO WAS WIFE TO ALEXANDER POOL ( Wm T Pool, 6/2015) 1. Susanna is shown as the given name of Alexander Pool's wife in several documents, here is one Indenture made the 8th day of January, 1762, between Alexander Pool and Susannah, his wife, parties of the first part, and Matthew Parham, Jr., of Sussex County, for 130 pounds, conveying 100 acres at the upper end of Shining Creek, and bounded by lands of William Macklin, John Clacks, and Alexander Pool (bought of William Lanier).
Signed by Alexander Pool and Susannah Pool (her mark). Witnesses were James Macklin, Thomas Lanier, and John Peebels. Indenture was acknowledged in Court on January 25, 1762, by Alexander Pool and Susannah Pool, and Susanna relinquished her right of dower. [1]
2. Susanna is shown to be the given name of John Mitchell's daughter (John was a Brunswick VA Planter). Entire will is included with John Mitchells bio, but here are the key sections

On the motion of the exors. certificate is granted them for obtaining a probate in due form.[2] Notes: Kezia shown in will as Susanna Mitchell's sister, is a MITCHELL name, therefore showing a HOLLOWAY-MITCHELL
3. Same John Mitchell Will shows a Susannah / Sukie is over 21 in 1745, so born before 1724 b. Macklin were witness, so must have lived close c. This is a Mitchell line known to be associated with our Pool family according to Audrey Pool's note. 4. Alexander Pool was living on his land in this area in 1761 From Brunswick Deed Book #7 Indenture made the 23rd day of November, 1761, between William Lanier and Matthew Parham, Jr., of Sussex County, for 100 pounds, conveying 235 acres on both sides of Shining Creek, adjoining Alexander Pool, William Macklin, John Hunington, Edward Denton, and John Clack. Witnesses were William Browne, Thomas Jackson, and J. Parham. Indenture acknowledged in Court on November 24, 1761, by William Lanier. Deed Book 7, Page 44. 5. In 1762 Alexander Pool and his wife Susanna are shown living my by the Wm Macklin as in Susanna Mitchell's father's Will ( he was a witness, and can safely assumed to have lived near John Mitchell in 1745).

6. Also in 1762 Alexander and Susanna Pool sell some of their land to Parham, connecting to John Mitchell (and therefore tying to Susanna Mitchell) again. Indenture made the 8th day of January, 1762, between Alexander Pool and Susannah, his wife, parties of the first part, and Matthew Parham, Jr., of Sussex County, for 130 pounds, conveying 100 acres at the upper end of Shining Creek, and bounded by lands of william Macklin, John Clacks, and Alexander Pool (bought of William Lanier). L15 VA. 100 acres which formerly was the property of Ellick/Allick/Alexander POOL who sold it to Matthew PARHAM.... wtp note, this would only connect if Alex Pool sold to Mitchell at a date before his death
Additional discussion , showing that Susanna Pool's maiden name was liklely Susanna Mitchell
a) given name of Susanna is established in multiple documents; b)Location (Brunswick) and general time is known (from birth years of sons Alexander and James, estimated marriage is c 1750); c) Families known to have close relations with our Pool family were searched for a Pool daughter, who would have been a young woman in 1750, and was living in Brunswick Co VA; d) The Mitchell family was the only one in which we found a Susanna, living in the right place at the right time. She is shown to have inherited land from her father's will.
Note: there are multiple Susanna Mitchells, this is NOT the Susanna Mitchell who was daughter of Robert Mitchell.Jr. That Susanna Mitchell married a Glover (see Will of Robert Mitchell of Granville County, NC 4 May, 1751 for evidence that this other Susanna Mitchell married a Glover. "(6) to dau SUSANNAH GLOVER, Negro wench Betty; )
Note alt spelling occur in some documents for her given name, nickname, and married name
Susanna Mitchell was dau of John Mitchell and, based on available info is believed to be wife of Alexander Poole / Pool (NEED ADD'L DOC TO PROVE OR DISPROVE THIS )
Mitchell - Pool relationship is well established Susanna Mitchell lived in the right area to be Alex Pool's wife the timing is correct for Susanna to be same given name as Alexander Pool's wife several excellent genealogists have suggested this connection - however, none consider this as proven fact
Will from Susanna Mitchell's father, John Mitchell Alexander Poole Jr
note from Audrey Pool (private email to Bill Pool) We have both MITCHELL and HOLLOWAY, or at least our POOL family named sons Isaac Mitchell POOL, I. M.
Named in John Pool 's will Various Mitchell persons signed documents with Alexander Pool Susanna Pool co signs many documents with husband Alexander Pool
Since Sukie inherited land from her father in 1745, she must have been 21 or older. Accordingly her birth year is listed as 1724 or earlier
Susanna married Alexander Poole in Brunswick Co VA in c 1750
Susanna Mitchell was chosen as the best of the identified candidates for wife of Alexander Pool -- but this falls well short of "proven connection" Connection between Sukie Mitchell and Susanna Pool is based on research (NONE OF WHOM CLAIMS TO HAVE PROVEN THIS CONNECTION) by Belva Cauthen ,Audrey Pool, and others. THIS CONNECTION REMAINS SPECULATIVE, - see discussion below
Sussannah Mitchell inherited land from her father in 1745. She would have had to be over 21 in order to inherit, that would give her a birth year of 1724 or earlier
from John Mitchell's will: To my daughter Sukei (Susannah) MITCHELL - 1 Negro named Peter. Also one tract of land of about 100 acres, it being part of the land I now live on, on the north side of the branch.
based numerous sources, , there is strong evidence that Susannah Pool, wife of Alexander is the former Susannah Mitchell. It is known that Alexander Poole and Susannah Mitchell's uncle knew each other and were co-signatures on Brunswick VA legal documents. Based on additional research, a "proof" that Susannah Pool's maiden name was Mitchell is provided below.
Death date uncertain, various speculated dates along with supporting evidence is given below. I have used 1761 for this profile because her name no longer seems to appear in documents with Alexander Pool (see below).
some genealogists list death date substantially later than this date. However, all of these references appear to be "cut and paste" from unsourced family trees. Died in either Mecklenburg or Brunswick Co.
Susanna Poole (maiden name now proven to be Mitchell) does not appear in documentation with Alex Pool Sr after about 1761 and is assumed to have died at about this date.
1763 from Death Date and marked as uncertain. If Susanna is the mother of James and Alexander Pool, and if she was still alive after Alexander Poole's death in 1767, it seems that the boys would have been with her on her land, rather than being bound out to the Ragsdale family by the Churchwardens.
