Biography

James Coffield Mitchell was born in 1716 in York, Virginia, to (it is thought) Janet Rule, age 33, and James Mitchell, age 33.
James Coffield Mitchell married Elizabeth Harlan in Nantucket, Massachusetts, on March 2, 1738, when he was 22 years old.
Some of their children were: Eleanor, 1745, Margaret Mary 1750, and James Cocke 1750.
His wife Elizabeth passed away in 1788 at the age of 68. They had been married 50 years.
James Coffield Mitchell died on May 23, 1799, in Isle of Wight, Virginia,[1] when he was 83 years old. On the Probate Notes are: James Mitchell. Leg.-wife Elizabeth; daughter Elizabeth and her unborn child; son Joseph; daughter Peggy; daughter Jane; son James. Exs., William Pinner and sister Ann Corbell.
