Biography

Elizabeth's birth records have not been located.

John Newport married Elizabeth Mitchell in 1745 at Stock Gaylard, Dorset, England[1] [2][3]

Two possible children of John and Elizabeth have been identified. They have not been attached as individual profiles to John and Elizabeth, as the research of their family group to date is not supported by corroborations that it can be considered beyond coincidence. More experienced researcher welcomed to disagree or suggest amendments.

The possible children identified are; Mary Newport, christened 7 Aug 1748. at Winterborne,, Stickland [4] Edward Newport, christened 18 Mar 1749 at Winterborne Stickland 1749, Stickland[5] Regrettably, Edward Newport was buried on 25 Jun 1750 at Winterborne, Stickland[6]

Elizabeth died in 1761 and was buried at Winterborne, Stickland, Dorset[7]

It has been suggested on many internet sites that Elizabeth Mitchell was partnered with John Harrison, later John Newport John Newport. There is no evidence to support this suggestion.

  3. Note that transcribed records sometimes indicate Stock-Gaylard and sometimes Stock-Gayland (or even Stock Grayland on wikitree). I believe Stock Gaylard is correct. It is in north of Dorset close to the Somerset border. Stock Gaylard is about 11 miles from Stickland by road.
