    Death of Mrs Gates, Senr.
A very old and highly respected resident of the district passed away on Wednesday in the person of Mrs Gales senr. at the residence of her daughter Mrs. Robinson, Merimbula, The late Mrs Gates was about 83 years of age, and had been associated with the Candelo district from its very earliest times. Personally she was a very fine old lady, typifying the most venerable qualities of a generation of women who lived bravely and wrought nobly in the making of conditions of life as we know them today. She leaves a large and respected family, of whom Messrs Thomas, William and Joseph. and Mesdames C. McCarthy and Moffitt, are still resident in the locality. The remarkable virility of the old lady was exemplified in the fact that several times in recent years she recovered from a condition which was considered hopeless. At the time of her death she was spending a short time with her daughter at Meiimbula when she succumbed to a sudden bad turn. The funeral took place yesterday to Candelo cemetery, the Rev. H. C. Howard conducting the ceremony at the graveside.
