Most online trees show birth in Yorkshire 1615 but the only source given is a baptism at Winteringham, Lincolnshire, on 2 August 1615.[1] It seems likely that Winteringham, Lincolnshire, has been confused with Wintringham, Yorkshire. Both places are over 60 miles from the parents shown here, who married at Penistone in 1601 or 1605 and had children there. William Mitchell born 1615 at Winteringham is likely to be the son of John Mitchell and Anne Harrison who were married at Winteringham on 26 November 1606.[2]
William Mitchell is a common name in most parts of England and there is no evidence to show that the husband of Joane Connett, who has a sourced baptism in Devon 1616, was born outside Devon. Online trees give a marriage source at Harpford, Devon, on 27 August 1663, which is an unfeasible date as William and Joan had both died before then.[3] No source found for a 1636 marriage, but it may be that the 1663 marriage has had the year transposed.
A son William baptised 1646 in Somerset is shown on some trees.[4]
