Research Notes

Thomas Mitchell (abt.1630-1709) and Mary (Moulton) Mitchell (1635-1711) were previously attached as his parents. However, there is no source to support this assertion.

When Andrew Mitchell was born in 1662, in Charlestown, Middlesex, Massachusetts Bay Colony, British Colonial America, his father, Thomas Mitchell, was 33 and his mother, Mary Moulton, was 27.[1]

Sources

  1. Note: Andrew Mitchell's father: Cutter and other sources say Thomas Mitchell was "probably" Andrew's father. This seems to be because Thomas and his wife Mary Moulton lived in Malden as did Phillip Atwood, father of Andrew's wife Abigail. Oddly, though, Andrew and Abigail were not married in the Malden Church, but by a JP in Charlestown. Andrew joined the Charlestown Church two years later. But Thomas proved not to be Andrew's father: In land records of Middlesex County vol 13 p540: Thomas Mitchell of Charlestown...Marriner..."to my only son John...". This includes land on Moulton Island from his wife Mary Moulton. The only question remains whether some other relationship exists. https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.3.1/TH-1942-36173-5787-74?cc=2106411&wc=MC1M-ZN5:361613501,364521301

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Andrew by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Andrew:

Where is the information for the birth parents coming from here? I don't see it sourced.

If the parents cannot be even sourced I believe they should be removed to avoid further confusion.

I have checked the Annapolis sources cited above... the supplemental only shows Andrew Mitchell is the father of Mary... the other full book has a George Mitchell and a ---- Mitchell in it, and nothing with an Andrew Mitchell, so I am unsure what it is sourced for.

All the vital records are either to his wife Abigail Atwood (There was a justice of the peace in addition to an actual ceremony later) and then the births of all their children... but there is nothing for the father or mother of Andrew Mitchell.

I am confused here. I have no parents listed for Andrew Mitchell, Sr.

If it is Andrew Jr he is named in Andrew Sr.'s will, as is Abigail/ Abiah.

Perhaps parents were linked when two profiles were merged.

This has parents listed that are not sourced… this is on Andrew Sr that married Abigail Atwood.

There’s a lot of confusion with Mitchell’s it seems during this period so without sourcing I believe the parents should be unlinked.

Thomas Mitchell and Mary Molton did not have a child named Andrew according to reputable sources. He should be disconnected from this couple. Objections?

In addition without the parents this profile is a duplicate of Mitchell-1847 and they should be merged.
