Biography

Maria Mitchell was born ca 1804 in New York. [1]

she married Dyer Tillinghast ca 1823 in New York. They had 4 known children.

  1. Sarah Tillinghast (1828-1877)
  2. Henry Tyer Tillinghast (1830-1862)[1]
  3. Anna M Tillinghast (1837-)[1]
  4. Catherine Tillinghast (1840-)[1]

The couple lived in Buffalo, Erie, New York, where in 1850, Dyer was a Lawyer, and Maria was taking care of the home and family, Henry-19, a Student, Ann-13, and Catherine-10, with a guest, Josephin Reiling-26 in the home.[1]

The were in Buffalo, in 1860, with their married daughter, Catherine Van Buren-20 and husband, Madison Van Buren-26, plus a Domestic, in the home.[2]

Her husband Dyre passed away on March 18, 1862, in Buffalo, New York, at the age of 64. They had been married 38 years.

At age 66, and widowed she was living with her daughter Annie and husband Tad C Davis in Buffalo, Erie, New York in 1870.[3]

She (71) was still living with her daugher Annie Marie and husband, Thadies Davis in 1875 in Buffalo, Erie, New York.[4]
