Death of the Oldest New Berne Lady.

Mrs. Cassandra Ivey, our oldest lady citizen, died yesterday afternoon at the advanced age of 88 years and 22 days, having been born on January 4, 1804.

Mrs. Ivey was an excellent and charming Christian lady, revered and loved by all who knew her. Hers is one of the oldest families of the city, she being a descendant of Mr. Louis Mitchell of Bern, Switzerland, who was associated with Baron De Graffenreid in bringing over the colonists with which New Berne was settled.

She was a sister of the widely known merchant, Mr. Alex. Mitchell, and she was the grandmother of Messrs. A. M. Baker and J. L. H. Missillier, and aunt of Mrs. W. F. Rountree.

She had numerous relatives elsewhere, who have been telegraphed to, some of whom are expected to be present at her funeral.
