Common Errors to Avoid

Incorrect LNAB: Although some say that Elizabeth is the daughter of Thomas Mitchell and Susannah Moore, there appears to be no evidence or source for this supposition, and the identity of her parents is not known.

The original error derives from the fact that Comfort Starr signed a surety bond for the marriage of a Lydia Mitchell of Ashford. An assumption was made that he must somehow be related to her and so another assumption was made that his wife Elizabeth might a Mitchell. The article states no evidence of this was found. However, this has found its way into online trees. Obviously, with the marriage record of Comfort Starr found, it should be considered disproven.

With the discovery of the marriage record of Comfort Starr to Elizabeth Watts, this theory can be considered be considered definitively disproven. Anderson published her marriage to Comfort Starr; the records indicate her last name when she married him was Watts.[2]

Find a Grave incorrectly lists her name as "Elizabeth Veritas Mitchell Starr". [4]

Mitchell-7462 and Watts-4487 appear to represent the same person because: Mitchell-7462 is an incomplete profile and contains the error of LNAB Mitchell. But should be merged to remove the erroneous information?

I adopted this profile so I could change the LNAB, in accordance with Anderson's GMB, after posting a question G2G (Who Is Dr. Comfort Starr's Wife Elizabeth?)

Are we prepared to use Watts as her surname?

I am heading to Boston tomorrow. I am hoping to visit the Kings Chapel Burial Ground. Maybe Providence will step in and shed some more light on Elizabeth?

Anderson, (in "Great Migration: immigrants to New England, 1634-35", Vol. VI, page 491) shows that Dr. Comfort Starr, b. 1589, married Elizabeth Watts. He cites the "Northiam, Sussex, Bishop's Transcripts" for Elizabeth's last name at the time of their marriage. Torry merely shows Elizabeth --.

Many online trees show Elizabeth with the maiden name Mitchell, which appears to come from "Yates Publishing. U.S. and International Marriage Records, 1560-1900 [database on-line]. Provo, UT, USA: Ancestry.com Operations Inc, 2004.", of course with no source citation. Is there any source for Elizabeth's last name as Mitchell? There is no record of another marriage.

If no source can be found, I propose to change Elizabeth's LNAB from Mitchell to Watts.
