John's father was a grocer in Cobourg.[1] John married Elizabeth Lanceley in 1862.[2] He was a farmer and butcher in Hamilton Township, Northumberland County. He and his wife Elizabeth had nine children.[3][4][5] They were still living on the farm in 1901[6] but by 1911, he had retired and they were living in Toronto.[7] John died in 1920 of arteriosclerosis. He was back in Hamilton Township. His son in law, Joseph Boddy was informant at his death.[8]
