FORMER RESIDENT'S SON KILLED IN AN ACCIDENT AT MUNCIE, William MITCHELL
Struck by Automobile While Returning From Swimming Trip... Funeral services were held this afternoon for William, the 11-year-old son of Mr & Mrs W.R. MITCHELL, former residents of Eaton. The services were conducted in the parents' home, on West Jackson St, Muncie, IN. Graveside services were conducted this afternoon in Spring Lawn Cemetery, New Paris, where interment was made. The lad died Tuesday night from injuries received when he was struck by an automobile driven by John W. Pruitt, former county commissioner of Delaware Co.
The father is a linotype operator on the Muncie Star, and was formerly employed by the Eaton Semi-Weekly News, moving to Muncie several years ago. The accident in which the boy was injured occurred as he was on his way from the Y.M.C.A., where he had been swimming. On his way across the West Jackson St. bridge, the sidewalk of which was destroyed by fire recently, the boy was forced to walk in the roadway, and stepped in the path of Pruitt's machine. Pruitt, who was said to have been traveling not more than 20 miles per hour, was exonerated of blame for the accident. The body of the boy was unidentified for about 4 hours. A description of the lad was broadcast from the local radio station and led to the identification
