The Thomas Mitchell described in this profile (Mitchell 8982) may have existed, but one cannot be certain from the data presented as support. For example, he is identified as a son of Ignatius Mitchell, and as the person, who sold his lands inherited from his grandfather, Thomas Wheeler, to his brother, Ignatius Mitchell, on 27Jan1747. These are inherently incongruous references. The Thomas Mitchell, who was gifted lands from his grandfather, Thomas Wheeler, was a son of Thomas Mitchell (per the original gift deed), not a son of Ignatius Mitchell and Margaret Wheeler. Moreover, the mother of this Thomas Mitchell was named Ann Wheeler (not Margaret Wheeler), as evidenced by the LWT of Thomas Wheeler.
Now, as regards the purported wife of this Thomas Mitchell having been named Elinor Boswell, that may or may not be correct. What is supported by record evidence is that the Thomas Mitchell, who was gifted land from his grandfather, Thomas Wheeler, very likely was 1st married to Charity Smallwood, daughter of Ledstone Smallwood. Whether he is the Thomas Mitchell, who appeared in records in Bedford County in the 1760's and 1770's, married to Elinor Boswell, that has not been proven. The death date for this Thomas Mitchell of 1777 appears to have been based on the LWT of Thomas Mitchell, the real father of this Thomas Mitchell, whose LWT was recorded in Charles County MD in 1777. In fact, the Thomas Mitchell, who married Elinor Boswell, was recorded in the 1783 and 1784 tax lists of Bedford County. His widow is of record having married John Ross in Bedford County on 11Jan1787. So, the Thomas Mitchell of Beford County probably died in Bedford County sometime between Apr1784 and Jan1787.
The identity of the Thomas Mitchell of Bedford County, husband of Elinor Boswell, and father of Ignatius Mitchell of Bedford County, is still unknown. The Thomas Mitchell described in this profile (Mitchell 8982) should be removed from Wikitree, until such time as these discrepancies can be resolved.
