Biography

Notes from CM Coulter, genealogist studying the Mitchell family. Review of early records of the Town Council in Providence RI. Several children of Experience Mitchell and Phebe (Tucker) Mitchell had to be "bound out" to other families due to poverty.

22 August 1737 - TC Meeting called at Glocester to provide speedy relief for Experience Mitchell and his family to relieve them out of present suffering condition. Phebe Mitchell, wife of said Experience, having complained to William Coman, one of the overseers of the poor. If he will nominate any place where he hath a mind his children be bound out. (Glocester TC 1:26-27)

5 September 1737 - son John apprenticed to Isaiah Inman to learn coopering. Daughter Mary to Robert Staples of Smithfield

19 September 1737 - son Zebediah bound to Abraham Smith of Smithfield. Son Edward bound to Job Comstock as apprentice servant

19 September 1737 - son Joseph - necessary to be bound out, TC considering the matter

28 November 1737 - Experience comes before TC and requests that his son Zebediah not be bound out because he is subject to fits. If he is not bound out, Experience would be willing for the rest of his children now out to continue where they now are. Sarah, daughter of Experience, to be bound out to Richard Steere, where she now is.... to age 18

11 January 1747 - TC called to provide for Phebe Mitchell, wife of Experience, she being now turned upon the town to be maintained.

18 October 1751 Michael Cooke and Sarah Mitchell married by Richard Smith, Justice.

16 April 1759 - Zebediah Mitchell late of Glocester departed this life.

23 April 1759 Experience Mitchell, late of Glocester, husbandman, departed this life 23 April 1759 intestate. Adm granted to Hezekiah Steere 28 May 1759 at Smithfield Total L192:07.00 (Glocester wills and inventories I:191-192).

Sept 1771 - Anne Kimball, wife of Nathaniel Kimball of Glocester, daughter of Experience Mitchell, Lydia Mitchell of Glocester, spinster, an infant under the age of Twenty one years, and one Hannah Mitchell wife of Experience Mitchell of Glocester, were charged by Perigreen Mathewson of Glocester, yeoman, with taking and stealing of two two sheep.

- Experience Mitchel of Glocester, yeoman, and Ezekiel Mitchel of Glocester, yeoman, personally appeared and gave bond of L25 each to the Justices of the Peace for the appearance of the defendants at December court.

Dec 1771 - Appeal by defendants that they were not guilty in manner and form as charged.

Thus, based on these records, among Experience and Phebe Mitchell's children are: John, Mary, Zebediah (dies 16 April 1759), Edward, Joseph, Sarah, Experience

Michel-55 and Mitchell-9081 appear to represent the same person because: They were both born in 1676 to John Michell and Mary Bonney/Boney.
