Lucille Georgia Mitchell appears in the 1870 US Census in the household of grandmother Ann Mitchell (Porter-12886) [1]. Lucy is 3 years old with her parents (Mitchell-9792 & Willey-1694). In the 1880 US Census in the household of her father and mother (parents), she is 13 years old and her kid sister, Grace Mitchell is 2 years old[2].
Lucy appears in her household with her husband, Jeremiah Glenson Smith, (Smith-753120), [3] in the 1900 US Census with their two year old son, George (Smith-75311).
The census taker listed her husband's age as "27" (190; 328; 341, line 71), and listed Lucy's age as "28" (ibid, line 72). She apparently did not want the census taker to know that she was actually five years older than Jeremiah, but she also did not want to relinquish the older of the two title. Nevertheless, their parents were born in Maryland (Mitchell-9792 & Willey-1694; Smith-146920 & Ruby-590).
