In the Pogue Library at Murray State Univ., Murray, KY, is an archive labeled "Nichol Family Papers" that primarily pertains to correspondence and family records of John W. Nichol (Nichol-234) and his immediate descendants. Among these papers is a single letter, dated Sept. 1, 1889 (pp. 041-043, Nichol Family Papers), from Mamie Hughes in Hickman, KY to "Cousin" (Elizabeth) Jane Nichol (Nichol-257) in Crutchfield, KY, reporting on the current status of Jane's cousins, descendants of John W. Nichol's younger brother David. In this document, all of David's children are referred to as "uncle" or "aunt", and all are in Missouri. The only one of David's children who did not leave Kentucky when the rest of the family moved to Missouri was Elizabeth A. Nichol (Nichol-226), who was last documented when she sold land (under her maiden name) that she held with her brother Lucian in 1854. Find-A-Grave.com lists a Mary B. Hughes and Harvey B. Hughes among those interred in Beulah Baptist Ch. Cemetery, just outside the community of Hickman, KY. Mamie is a standard nickname for "Mary".
