wjjenkin.FTW Mary Montgomery had a friend named Tennessee and when her twins were born she wanted one of them to be named for her friend. John said if she got to name one of the twins after a state so could he so he named the other girl Alabama. The twins were born somewhere near Pueblo, CO under a tree.
