Biography

Blacksmith Eli Moore served in the United States Civil War.
Mustered out: July 4, 1863
Side: CSA
Regiment(s): Company H, 34th Reg't, Georgia

Eli was born around 1811 in Pendleton District, South Carolina. He was a son of David Moore and Sarah Wilkerson.[1]:

Eli was a Blacksmith, as was his father. About 1835, he married Elizabeth Brewer, and they made their home in the Eastern Subdivision of Anderson County, South Carolina.[2] By 1860, they had moved to Hibbs Creek (6th Militia District), Banks County, Georgia.[3] They had ten children:

  1. Emily (1836-1910)
  2. David Crockett (1837-1925)
  3. John A. (1841-1879)
  4. Sarah (1842-1920)
  5. Eli Dallas (1845-1920)
  6. Elizabeth Clarissa (1847-)
  7. Willis W. (1848-1919)
  8. Arthur Lawrence (1852-1935)
  9. William Frank (1854-1910)
  10. Newton C. (1856-1933)

Shortly after moving to Georgia, Elizabeth died. On 27 Dec 1860, Eli married Nancy Lou Toney, widow of Clarkston Norwood.[4]

Eli's skills as a blacksmith were put to use during the War Between the States. He served as a volunteer in Co. H, 34th Reg't, and, at age 58, is listed on the 1864 Census for Re-Organizing the Georgia Militia.[5]

In 1870, Eli and Nancy were still living in Banks County, in Homer, Georgia.[6]

Eli passed away on 17 Mar 1877 and was buried near Homer, Banks County, Georgia. (Several family trees list this death date and location; we will list it on his profile until a better source can be found.)[7]
