Thomas Moore, son of Theodosius and Sarah (Pryor) Moore, was born 9 Aug. 1726 at Bridgewater, Mass.[1]
"According to his father Theodosius' will and guardianship records, when Theodosius died in 1737, guardianship of Thomas, then age 11, was turned over to the Reverend Samuel Brown of Abington,[2] who was also the executor of Theodosius' will. Thomas's brother John's guardianship was turned over to Jonathan Bass.[2] Tragedy must have struck the Bass home as John Moore died at the age of 15 in October if 1745, presumably while still living in the Bass home but not definitely. Two or three of the Bass's daughters died the following summer."[3]
Thomas married Mary Hamblen of Abington, 24 Sept. 1746 at Abington.[4]
There was a Mary Hamblen, daughter of Benjamin and Ann (Mayo) Hamblen of Eastham on Cape Cod. Three of her siblings (including Eleazer and Isaac) were connected with Bridgewater. However, this Mary is known to have married someone else. See http://familytreemaker.genealogy.com/users/h/a/m/Steven-H-Hamblin/WEBSITE-0001/UHP-0586.html
The Moore family left Bridgewater some time after 1769 (when youngest daughter Sarah was born). Thomas Moore first appears in the land records in Stoughton in March 1774, when he bought over 100 acres.[5] Thomas sold this land in October 1783.[6] This was around the time that Thomas's sons Thomas and Samuel were founding settlers of the town of Chelsea, Vermont.
Thomas's son Thomas lived in Stoughton and married in Dec. 1780 at Winchester, N.H.[7] Thomas (Jr.) and brother Samuel moved from Winchester, N.H. to Chelsea, Vermont in the mid-1780s. [8] Son Theodosius was listed in Winchester in the 1790 census, and Thomas himself appears in the 1790 census in Chelsea, together with sons Thomas and Samuel.[9]
