Biography

Eliza was born in probably New Orleans, as her family was en route from Ireland to Illinois, where she grew up. She was raised by her step-father,Samuel Boyd. She married John Sympson (or Simpson) Clendenin on 19 Oct 1865 and bore him a son and a daughter before his 1869 death. On 27 May 1875 she married John Beattie; there is no record of children from this marriage. In the 06 Jun 1880 census for Baldwin, Randolph County, IL, Eliza Beattie, Age 39, her children (James) William Clendenin and Anna J. Clendenin were living with her husband John Beatti, John's two sisters Martha and "E.D. Beattie, and John's mother, Margaret (Boyd) Beattie. In the 22 Apr 1910 census for Centralia, Marion, IL, Eliza was shown as "Elisah A. Beatty, age 69, widow," living with her daughter Anna (Clendenin) Clore, Anna's husband Albert Clore and their two children Annie L Clore (age 20) and Bessie M. Clore,(age 17) Eliza died on 05 Jul 1911 in Centralia, IL, and is buried at Caledonia Cemetery, Sparta, Randolph County, Illinois.
